Lewis scores 27, Fresno State beats UNLV 95-82 in MW tourney

LAS VEGAS -- Julien Lewis had 27 points and No. 2 seed Fresno State beat seventh-seeded UNLV 95-82 in the Mountain West Conference tournament quarterfinals on Thursday night.

Fresno State took a double-digit lead for good when Cezar Guerrero's layup made it 86-76 with 1:30 to go. The Bulldogs (23-9) made 9 of 10 free throws from there and will face the Boise State-Colorado State winner on Friday night.

Guerrero added 17 points for Fresno State. Marvelle Harris scored 16, Terrell Carter II added 13 and Karachi Edo 12.

Patrick McCaw had 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting for the Rebels (18-15). Jerome Seagears had 17 points, Stephen Zimmerman Jr. scored 13 and Ike Nwamu 12.

The Rebels trailed the entire game though they closed within 37-35 late in the first half. Lewis answered with a 3 to close the half and Fresno State scored the first six of the second to lead 46-35.
