A person familiar with the decision says Sacramento Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro has accepted a front-office position in Denver.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the teams have not formally announced the move. D'Alessandro is expected to work in a support role under Josh Kroenke, the president of the NBA's Denver Nuggets and the NHL's Colorado Avalanche.

Yahoo! Sports first reported the agreement.

D'Alessandro was hired as general manager of the Kings in June 2013 after working in the Nuggets' front office. He fired Michael Malone as coach 24 games into his second season, and as Sacramento continued to slide, owner Vivek Ranadive hired former center Vlade Divac to oversee basketball operations in March.
