Officers were called to a shopping center at Shaw and Valentine in Northwest Fresno on Friday night. Passersby reported a man slumped over the steering wheel of his pickup truck.

Officers opened the door and say the man "woke up" and reached for his pocket. Officers pulled the man out, and handcuffed him. The found a total of eight weapons, including semi automatic handguns and revolvers stuffed in his pockets.

In his truck they discovered an assault rifle and half a dozen ammunition clips, each loaded with 50 bullets. They also found a silencer and what appeared to be methamphetamine.

The suspect offered no resistance and was seen sleeping or unconscious in the back of a police patrol car while officers inventoried the weapons.

Lt. Gregg Sanders of the Fresno Police Department said police have no idea why the man had so many guns and so much ammunition. Sanders says the suspect is facing a variety of serious weapons and drug charges.

Police identified the suspect at Duane Blech. He is 39 years old and from Chowchilla.
