Investigators say deputies tried to stop the wanted parolee, but instead he ran, dropping an assault rifle in the process.
Deputies ordered him to stop again, and that's when they say he reached into his pocket. At least one deputy fired, striking the suspect once in the leg.
He's expected to survive. No officers were hurt.
