Corcoran hospital ER shuts down for good

FRESNO, Calif.

The emergency room at the Corcoran District Hospital shut down Friday. The hospital has also quit performing surgeries and its 32 hospital beds are empty. Half of the hospital, 80 employees have been laid off.

It's all because the state prison system is cutting medical care for inmates and Corcoran State Prison provided the hospital with much of its business.

Hospital CEO Jon Brenn says the hospital will operate as an out-clinic.

Anyone needing emergency care should go to the hospital in Hanford.
