Yerdle app helps you trade what you have for what you want

May 5, 2014

Schueller didn't pay for his hydration pack, or the book of Spanish phrases he used on a recent trip to Costa Rica.

Instead, he got them on Yerdle.

Schueller says, "Yerdle is an app that you can use on your phone, to take pictures of things that you may have around your house to give away to other people in exchange for some things that they may have laying around their house."

Aside from postage, which usually runs between $3-$5, no money changes hands when bid on and exchange items with other Yerdle users.

"It's based on points, it works kind of like eBay, but instead of spending real money, you get points for giving away things and then you use those points to spend on things that you might need," Schueller says.

He says he looks for similar items to decide how many points he should list his items for. New users get 250 points just for signing up.

He adds, "There have been times when there was something that I posted for too many points, so I had to bring down the points a little bit in order for someone to bid on it."

As for the items listed on Yerdle -- you never know what you'll find. From Apple Tv's to clothes and shoes, to the kitchen sink (sort of).

Schueller says, "I actually got a kitchen faucet 'cause my broke. Someone was getting rid of their old faucet that still worked, and so I took mine out and put theirs in."

Yerdle is available as a website and iPhone app. The Android version should be coming soon. To check it out, click here.
