1 arrested for stealing golf carts at Visalia Country Club, police say

VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 19-year-old is in custody after stealing a golf cart and causing thousands of dollars in theft and damage.

The chaos unfolded just after 7:30 am Sunday at the Visalia County Club off North Ranch Street.

Visalia police officers say three men jumped the fence of the country club and drove two golf carts belonging to the club, along with a third cart owned by someone.

The suspects caused $1,000 in damage to one of the club's golf carts and about $15,000 in damage to the privately owned cart.

The trio also stole a golf bag, which included clubs, jewelry and cash totaling more than $17,000.

Detectives found one of the suspects, 19-year-old Aiden Mendez, in Exeter.

Mendez was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial facility.

He faces several charges, including grand theft and vandalism.
