2 killed in head-on crash in Madera

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two people are dead and others are critically injured after a head-on crash in Madera.

It happened just before 4:30 p.m. on Avenue 12 near Avenue 34 1/2.

Investigators say a driver in a black Audi was traveling eastbound when, for an unknown reason, drifted into the westbound lane colliding with a Toyota 4-Runner.

The driver of the Audi died at the scene, as well as one passenger in the Toyota, officers say.

According to authorities, there were five people in the Toyota, including three children. One victim was airlifted to the hospital, while EMS transported the rest.

Avenue 12 was closed for hours as officers investigated. It has since reopened.
