NBA free agency is off to a fast start with several key names on the move, mostly via trade. Arguably the biggest was 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown heading from the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George and a package of draft picks. The transaction shortened Philly from 60-1 to 20-1 to win the 2027 NBA Finals, while Boston lengthened from +700 to 13-1.
The Toronto Raptors also made a splash by bringing back Kawhi Leonard in a trade with theLA Clippers, a move that improved the Raptors' odds to win the Finals from 35-1 to 25-1. Just before that, the Portland Trail Blazers made a trade for Ja Morant, shortening their odds to win the Finals from 90-1 to 80-1.
The San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder still very much lead the championship odds pack at +270, with the reigning champion New York Knicks now a clear third at +850, but anything can still happen as the offseason progresses. Namely, the league is eagerly awaiting a decision on where LeBron James will play basketball next season. In states that offer lines on that market, the Golden State Warriors are slight favorites over the Cleveland Cavaliers to land the all-time great, with both teams seeing their title odds shorten to 30-1 as rumors continue to swirl.
