Charges filed against man shot by ICE agents in Stanislaus County

STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- The man who was shot by ICE agents in Stanislaus County has been charged with assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon.

Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez was taken out of the hospital Monday afternoon and directly into FBI custody following a warrant.

Last week, the 36-year-old was shot several times by ICE agents during a targeted traffic stop in Patterson.

The Department of Homeland Security says Hernandez tried hitting the agents with his car.

ICE says Hernandez is a known gang member and is wanted in El Salvador in connection to a murder, but attorney Patrick Kolasinski calls the claims false.

He is a father with a two-year-old daughter and is engaged to a United States citizen.
