Dogs find new forever home after veteran owner passes away

MADERA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A heart-warming update after neighbors and good Samaritans launched efforts to find a forever home for two German shepherds.

The dogs were left behind after Valley veteran Karl Heinrich of Madera passed away last month.

Neighbors say Heinrich had no local family members who could take care of "Ford" and his older German shepherd, "Sarge".

The neighbors decided to take on the task of finding both of them a home.

"Sarge" was quickly adopted into a new family and now it appears "Ford" will also be going to his new forever home.

Neighbors say they're looking over an interest form just to make sure it's the perfect fit.

If all goes well, "Ford" will go with his new family who live in the foothills, sometime early next week.
