Fresno State Athletics shares economic impact of hosting historic Shakira Concert

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno State is sharing the fiscal impact after some fans traveled from "Whenever, Wherever" to see Shakira shake her hips on stage last week.

The athletic department posted to social media that more than 28 percent of concert-goers traveled from over 50 miles away to attend the first show at Valley Children's Stadium.

There were more than 9,700 out-of-area visitors. Fresno State Athletics also estimates that over $2.1 million was spent by concert-goers.

The concert drew some criticism for its organization and entry process. Some fans waited in long lines for hours just to get into the stadium, even missing parts of the concert.

Fresno State Athletics issued an apology for the delays later that night, with athletics director Garrett Klassy saying the following day they will "keep learning and leveling up."
