Hanford community comes together to honor the life of Adrian Valdovinos during emotional vigil

HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) -- Family, friends and community members gathered at Civic Center Park to remember 25-year-old Adrian Valdovinos, a young boxer whose life was cut short in a shooting early Sunday morning, according to police.

"It's just a big loss. He's going to be greatly missed," said Christine Aguilar, Adrian's aunt.

It's been an emotional rollercoaster for Adrian's loved ones. His family held a vigil Wednesday night to honor his life. Many people came to pay their respects, reflecting the impact he had on the community.

Valdovinos' father, Robert Santiago Aguilar, remembered his son as compassionate and selfless.

"He was so forgiving, so loving, so kind, and always wanted to look out for others before himself," Robert said.

Photos displayed at the vigil showed Adrian's life and growth. His father said his son had touched many lives and expressed hope that those gathered would reflect the impact he left behind.

"I just hope that where he's at, he's looking down at us and he sees the impact he had on so many lives," Aguilar said.

The vigil also honored Valdovinos' passion for boxing. Gloves placed at the vigil symbolized Adrian's passion for the sport. Known as a talented boxer, he held a professional record of 10-2.

Adrian's brother, Ruben Valdovinos Jr., told Action News that boxing was where he made his name and that Adrian served as an incredible role model while training at the Hanford PAL Program.

"Boxing was his life and then all of a sudden his life's taken," said Christine.

According to Hanford Police, officers responded early Sunday morning to a home near University and Stanford avenues after a call reported arguing and possible gunshots.

Investigators say 33-year-old Vincent Diaz forced his way into the home, where he then shot and killed Adrian and then took his own life.

"My heart is completely shattered at the situation but yet I find some peace in knowing he's okay and he's in heaven now," said Robert

Many are left wondering why this tragedy even happened. Adrian will remain forever 25, but his legacy will live on.

"He was a big legend and his legend will carry on," said Christine.
