FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno County-based farm has settled a lawsuit filed by the Federal government after seven farmworkers died while on their way to work.

The farmworkers in the van were headed from their homes in Kerman to Lion Farms.

During an initial investigation, CHP officers said the people were not wearing seat belts.

The U.S. Department of Labor filed a lawsuit accusing Lion Farms of violating rules under the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act.

A spokesperson for the department said the legal action was also meant to ensure enforcement of vehicle safety standards and licensing requirements.

The company reached an agreement in August but specific details have not been made public.
