Madera County approves Highway 41 expansion in area well known for traffic jams

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- In a historic and unanimous vote, construction on the Highway 41 expansion project has been given the green light in Madera County.

Starting next month, crews will work to widen Highway 41 to four lanes from Avenue 10 1/2 to just north of Avenue 15.

The project will also include an overpass at Avenue 11, along with new signals and raised medians for safety.

The goal of the project is to ease traffic near surrounding housing developments, including Tesoro Viejo and Riverstone.

The widening project is the largest public works project ever sponsored by the county and is set to be completed in May of 2028.
