MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno woman and her teenage daughter have been identified as the two people killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer Saturday morning in Madera County, the California Highway Patrol says.
CHP said the 50-year-old woman was driving a black Honda on Highway 152 near Road 14 1/2 south of Chowchilla shortly before 2 a.m. when she approached a big rig.
Investigators said the 32-year-old big rig driver was experiencing engine difficulties and was traveling about 10 to 15 mph on the highway.
The Honda crashed into the rear of the tractor-trailer, killing the driver and her 17-year-old daughter, who was riding in the passenger seat.
According to CHP, the big rig driver pulled onto the right shoulder before realizing the Honda was lodged underneath the trailer. He was not injured.
Investigators said everyone involved was wearing a seat belt.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
