FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Canvas is dealing with a massive cybersecurity incident.
The web-based learning management system has more than 30 million active users globally, with more than 8,000 institutions as customers, such as Fresno State, UC Merced and College of the Sequoias.
Many of those students are in the middle of a busy Spring finals week.
The company told users that it experienced a worldwide cyber-attack this afternoon and added it's unclear which colleges are affected.
The extortion group "Shiny Hunters" has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
Canvas has been taken down worldwide to protect sensitive information.
