Pedestrian hit and killed by train in Merced, authorities say

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- One person is dead after they were hit by a train in Merced on Wednesday.

The train was traveling eastbound on U Street along the Santa Fe railroad tracks.

The crash halted traffic as several North Valley schools headed back to campus Wednesday morning.

All of the impacted railroad crossings have since been cleared and are now back open.
