Porterville school campuses secured after deputy‑involved shooting

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KFSN) -- Three Porterville Unified School District campuses remain secured as law enforcement continues responding to an active and dangerous situation nearby involving a barricaded suspect and an officer-involved shooting.

Westfield Elementary, Sequoia Middle School, and Monache High School are in a secure status, meaning school doors are locked due to a law enforcement situation in the area. District officials say students and staff are safe inside the campuses.

The secure status is a precaution as sheriff's deputies, Porterville police, SWAT teams, and crisis negotiators remain on scene.

Authorities say the response stems from a deadly shooting that occurred while deputies were serving an eviction notice nearby.

Sheriff Mike Boudreaux urged parents not to go to school campuses to pick up students early, stressing that students and staff are safe and officers are focused on securing the area.

District officials say parents will be required to pick up their students once releases begin. School buses will not be operating, and students will not be permitted to walk home.

Parents are urged to continue checking ParentSquare for updates and specific pickup instructions.
