FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Dozens of scholarships were handed out to deserving Central Unified students Wednesday night.
It was part of the Foundation for Central Schools Scholarship Awards ceremony.
This is the 10th year they've awarded scholarships.
Twenty-six of them were handed out, which included nine in honor of Janessa Ramirez.
The nine scholarships represented her age back in 2015, when she was killed in west central Fresno.
Action News Anchor Jessica Harrington moderated a panel with four of the scholarship recipients to begin the night.
Those in attendance learned about the students' educational and personal journeys, as well as their goals as they pursue higher education.
