FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading Fresno police on a pursuit that ended inside the Fresno Chaffee Zoo early Saturday morning.

Fresno police say that around 3:45 p.m., the California Highway Patrol requested assistance from their agency, along with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, to help pursue a stolen vehicle.

The pursuit led them to the area of Belmont and Delno avenues, where the suspect, identified as Shawn Vaughn Goodwin, allegedly got out of the car and ran off.

Officers surrounded the area and coordinated with CHP and a FCSO drone unit to clear out Roeding Park and Storyland.

Goodwin was allegedly seen jumping over a fence into the zoo. Authorities then began searching inside the zoo.

Around 5:30 a.m., officers found Goodwin but they say he began running again, prompting another pursuit throughout the zoo.

Officers closed the aviary enclosure and say they saw Goodwin jump onto the roof. He then allegedly jumped from roof to roof until he was surrounded by officers and surrendered for arrest.

According to Fresno police, $10,000 in stolen items were found in Goodwin's possession.
