Suspect shot by Selma police officer

SELMA, Calif. -- Two investigations are underway after a Selma police officer shot a suspect Saturday night.

The Fresno County Sheriff's office says it all started just before 10 p.m. with a report of shots fired outside Selma city limits.

As deputies were at the scene of that incident, a Selma police officer found someone they believe was connected to the shooting at a shopping center near Floral and Highway 99. It's unclear exactly what happened next, but the Selma officer opened fire.

"The Selma police officer fired his weapon, and the person that they believed is involved was hit. That person was transported to CRMC in stable condition," said FCSO Sergeant Alan Kelzer.

Sergeant Kelzer says witnesses at the initial shooting call are cooperating with the investigation.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is also investigating what led up to the Selma officer opening fire.
