A Fresno County deputy district attorney is recovering after being stabbed Thursday afternoon in downtown Fresno while filming a campaign commercial.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The suspect has been identified in the stabbing of a deputy district attorney at Courthouse Park in Downtown Fresno.

Dustin Crawford, 42, faces charges of attempted murder and attempted murder of a public official.

The incident happened shortly after 1 pm Thursday when Ashley Paulson, who is running for a seat on the Fresno County Superior Court, revealed the prosecutor was attacked while shooting a campaign commercial.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office said the stabbing was an unprovoked act of violence.

The attorney was rushed to the hospital and has since been released.

Authorities briefly placed the courthouse on lockdown as a safety measure.

Crawford was found near Van Ness Avenue and Fresno Street.

Authorities say Crawford has a criminal history and has spent time in prison.

He is now in the Fresno County Jail with a $1 million bail.
