Linebacker Aaron Curry was drafted fourth by the Seahawks in 2009 with a $34 million guaranteed. But his performance declined over seasons, and he retired in 2013.
QB JaMarcus Russell was drafted with the first pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2007 but poor play led to his release in 2010. Russell was also arrested in 2014 for drugs.
Brady Quinn is beloved by Notre Dame fans, but the QB failed to make an impact in the NFL, earning only 3,043 passing yards since his first season in 2007.
Vince Young may have led the Texas Longhorns to a Rose Bowl win in 2006, but in the NFL, he was better known for his poor play and emotional and financial problems.
He was a star QB at USC, but Matt Leinart failed to make an impact in the NFL. Leinart played backup from 2006-2012, and hasn't donned an NFL uniform since 2013.
Earning early comparisons to Randy Moss, WR Charles Rogers was drafted second by the Rams in 2003. But injuries, drug problems, and legal issues derailed his career.
Selected right behind Peyton Manning in the 1998 NFL draft, QB Ryan Leaf only played four years in the NFL, and faced several legal issues post-football.
Ki-Jana Carter helped lead Penn State to a Rose Bowl victory in 1995. But the running back suffered several injuries in the NFL, eventually getting cut by the Packers in 2002.
RB Blair Thomas helped win a national championship with Penn State in 1986. But several injuries lead to him only earning 2,236 yards in his six-year career.
Picked second overall in 1989, OL Tony Mandarich's bad attitude, poor performance, and steroid use lead to Sports Illustrated calling him "The NFL's Incredible Bust."
A legend at the University of Oklahoma, linebacker Brian Bosworth only played two seasons in the NFL, where he was known primarily for trash talking and bad behavior.
