Nordstrom delays plans for e-commerce center in Central Valley

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Nordstrom has delayed plans to open an e-commerce center in the Central Valley, possibly until 2020, a company official said in a statement.

Fresno and Visalia city officials received letters from Nordstrom on Wednesday thanking the cities for efforting the plan but stated that the company no longer has interest for the center in the immediate future.

City officials in Fresno and Visalia had been vying to be the home of the e-commerce center for months. The center would have brought hundreds of jobs to the city that was chosen.

The project passed a major hurdle in April after the California Competes Tax Credit Committee in Sacramento approved an $11 million tax credit for the plan.

"A center like that, distribution e-commerce, is going to be huge for us," Fresno County Economic Development Corporation CEO Lee Ann Eager said in April. "Not just because of Nordstrom, which we all love, but because it's also going to affect going forward. There could be a domino effect if we get that one there could be many more."

In the letter, the Nordstrom representative stated that the company is open to reconsidering before 2020.
