Want a holiday job? Now's the time to start looking
Many say there's lots of opportunities out there, but time is running out to get those applications in

HOUSTON -- The holiday season is upon us which means businesses are opening their doors to potential employees. Many say there are lots of opportunities out there, but time is running out to get those applications in.

Maybe you're looking for some extra spending cash? Some are hoping a seasonal job can transition into something bigger. Regardless, no matter where you turn, many local and national companies are hiring "right now."

Justin Galloway has been taking advantage of the resources at Workforce Solutions to land his next job.

"It's actually looking pretty good. I've already got two interviews," he said.

While Galloway is hoping to find something more permanent, experts tell us now's the time to start applying for holiday help.

"Most of the seasonal hiring will be complete by the end of October," said Daniel Zendejas with Workforce Solutions.

Zendejas says there's lots of opportunity this holiday season to make some good money.

"It really depends on the position, but for sure anything in the 10 to 15 dollar and hour range is going to be pretty consistent," he said.

And it's not just the retail industry, according to Zendejas.

"People that take orders over the phone. Or maybe offer customer service over the web. But also, once you get your new gift for yourself or your loved ones, someone to actually deliver those," he said.

It is why shipping companies have already started the hiring process.

"This time of year we're going to be looking for in the Houston area somewhere between 2,000 and 2,500 seasonal hires," said Marshall Whatson with UPS.

Whatson says their peak season runs from October 15 through January 15.

"We're going to need seasonal drivers, inside dock workers, and helpers that actually go out on the road with out drivers," he said.

FedEx and UPS are hiring more workers to avoid the delays that frustrated shoppers and gift-recipients a year ago. The delivery giants were caught off-guard by bad weather and a surge in last-minute online shopping resulting in gifts not being delivered in time.

Below is a list of companies hiring for the holidays:

UPS

FedEx

JC Penney

Macy's

Kohls

Toys R Us
