Clovis schools looking to hire
If you're looking for a teaching job, you may want to check out Clovis Unified. Administrators say the district is growing and needs more staff members to help run its schools.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- If you're looking for a teaching job, you may want to check out Clovis Unified. Administrators say the district is growing and needs more staff members to help run its schools.

A friendly chatter filled the Clovis Unified Professional Development Building Friday for the district's annual job fair. Among the dozens of conversations was one common question.

Amie Nisbett was one of the 300 people that turned out Friday to interview with administrators. "I thought it was great," Nisbett said. "It feels so nice to be back here in Clovis Unified"

Her hope is to find her way back into the classroom after spending time teaching in southern California.

"I'm looking for an elementary school position," Nisbett said. "I've taught kindergarten, and I did student teaching in second and fourth so I'm really looking for any grade K to 6."

This is the third year the district has held the fair, which gives people a chance to meet face to face with their potential bosses. "We're looking forward to hire new candidates to come into our schools," Roxanne Braswell with the school district said. "And administrators are always excited to meet the fresh new faces that are coming in to meet with us.">

Braswell says Clovis Unified is hiring everything from Special Ed to single subject and multiple subject teachers. "We're opening a new elementary school this year," she said. "So, we'll be hiring for and staffing as well as retirements and growth in the rest of the district."

Officials hope to hire about 100 positions. "With the new local control funding we've been able to do some class size reduction," Braswell said. "So we're hiring new teachers, which is great for us. So, we've been on an upward trend."

The job fair allowed candidates to interview and gives them a chance for a second interview.
