FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- More than a thousand people gathered at the Save Mart Center on Saturday to celebrate the investiture of Fresno State President Joseph Castro.

The ceremony officially confers upon Dr. Castro the presidential medal -- a symbol of his responsibility and authority. The chancellor of the 23 California State Universities and members of the Board of Trustees attended the event.

Dr. Castro is Fresno State's eighth president and says he sees a strong future for graduates.

"I want us to be bold in our thoughts and in our actions. I want us to feel free to express in a civil and respectful way what is on our minds. I proposed this theme in January and I am heartened to see it happening every single day at Fresno State," Dr. Castro said.

President Castro also announced Granville Homes will help build a new state-of-the-art concert hall at Fresno State.

Action News anchor Graciela Moreno served as mistress of ceremonies.
