A monumental celebration in Tulare County this weekend, one of the schools is turning 150.

Outside Creek School opened its doors on October 10, 1864. This school once served a 13 mile area in rural Tulare County. Today the boundaries are smaller but it remains a part of the community.

Friday afternoon, kids at any school are ready for a weekend, but at Outside Creek School in Tulare County, campus will open Saturday to celebrate the school's 150th birthday.

Principal Derrick Bravo not only teaches here he's a former student too.

Bravo said, "I remember actually sitting around here. And the rooms used to seem so huge to me."

This is where he spent 2nd and 3rd grade with his favorite teacher Mrs. Noel. Patsy Noel taught for 37 years always in this same classroom.

Noel said, "My old desk is still here, that thing is ancient, that desk is like solid oak and they don't make them like that anymore."

Bravo added, "You could just tell that she cared about your learning."

It's not just former teachers showing up to celebrate but also former students.

Dan Boesch told ABC30, "I remember the trouble I use to get into."

In the video, you'll see a photo showing Dan Boesch and George Noell with their graduating class in 1952

"I remember one kid rode a horse back and forth to school," added Boesch.

Other photos on display capture the countless number of students that went to Outside Creek, including one from the graduating class of 1915.

Former student George Noell said, "I'm very proud to be part of the Outside Creek history."

History the school hopes will continue to grow with these students over the next 150 years.

Bravo said, "As a student that you're part of a school that kids from the 1800s attending, it's really special."

The public is invited to celebrate this historic birthday tomorrow.
