Winton school receives 2014 National Blue Ribbon honors

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A North Valley school is enjoying a major accomplishment.

Frank Sparkes Elementary in Winton held a celebration on Friday. It was one of only two campuses in the Valley to be named a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School. Pinedale Elementary was the other.

Frank Sparkes is a rural school that serves a large English language learner population. It was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an "Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School."

The superintendent of the Winton School District says the entire community is proud of the students, parents, faculty and staff for this honor.
