FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An author whose work helped create the zombie craze across the globe visited Fresno City College.

People haven't been able to get enough of zombies on the big screen or on TV.

Max brooks told a large crowd at FCC, "I thought what's scary is about zombies is they come to you. You're minding your own business."

Max Brooks has written "World War Z" and "The Zombie Survival Guide," which made the New York Times best seller list.

Brooks said, "I think I was always afraid of zombies and I always wanted to know how to survive them. Nobody had ever written a book on how to survive them because everyone else was off having a life."

Max's life is that of a writer so everyone has hit him with the same question when he signs copies of his books. "Am I going to write another one like this and I write..." He wrote "Not yet."

Max Brooks is the son of comedy filmmaker Mel Brooks and the late actress Anne Bancroft. His dad has remained active.

Brooks said, "My dad at 88-years-old works harder than most 25-year-olds. He just came back from London doing a one-man show on stage."

Max's newest book is titled "The Harlem Hellfighters." He said it is based on a true story.

He said, "A unit of African-American soldiers was set up to fail by the United States government."

But they came home a decorated unit.

Max added, "The book has already optioned for a movie by Will Smith's company and they're already in the development phase."

We'd expect nothing less.
