FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The countdown to opening day of the Big Fresno Fair is on, and, this year, there will be something new for just about everyone.

All is calm here at the fairgrounds, but next Wednesday families will hit the fairgrounds to soak in the sights and sounds associated with the event.

With just over a week to go, organizers were busy Monday morning laying out the yellow brick road for the opening day of the Big Fresno Fair.

"We always have something new and exciting at the fair," deputy manager Lauri King said.

King says as always the fair will be a family-friendly environment but there will be a new educational experience for everyone. The watershed in the Meyers Water and Wildlife Tree will have a map projection on how water is important to the Central Valley.

"And it will change with the seasons, it will change with rainstorms, weather, things like that and it will just show you how important water is and what the water does when it rains and when we're in a drought," she said.

Giant creatures have settled in the bug-ology exhibit in kids' town. This will be home to five giant animatronics bugs that move and make sounds.

"Along with that, we will the live bugs for you be able to see, touch, feel and taste," King said. "So you are actually going to have the opportunity to taste bugs."

If you prefer beer instead of bugs you can quench your thirst at the first ever craft beer festival. That event will take place in the middle of the horse racing track on Saturday, October 7th.

"There are 30 breweries that will be involved," King explained. "We have huge lawn games that will be out, a DJ, so it will be a really nice fun afternoon."

You will also be able to enjoy your favorite food trucks and place bets on your favorite horse. Tickets are $45 in advance. Not interested in gambling but interested in saving money? The Big Fresno Fair has you covered.

"There are so many ways to get into the fair that people are silly if they don't take advantage of all of these ways to save," King said.

Season passes are available at the Big Fresno Fair box office. You can stop by O'Reilly Auto Parts, Save Mart and Food Maxx for discounts on admission and carnival rides.
