Families beat the heat at Clovis water park
As temperatures continue to climb this Memorial Day weekend, people are finding ways to stay cool.

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- As temperatures continue to climb this Memorial Day weekend, people are finding ways to stay cool.

Many families hit the season opening of Wild Water Adventure Park in Clovis on Saturday.

But Ben Garcia of American Ambulance says just because you're in the pool it doesn't mean you can stop drinking water. He says paramedics see a significant increase in their call volume this time of the year.

While they don't track if the calls are heat-related or not, they do respond to a lot of patients who aren't staying hydrated in the sun -- especially kids.

"They can just go, and go, and go, and go," said Garcia. "Sometimes they forget to drink water and they'll drink other things, sports drinks and stuff like that. Kids don't really tell you how they feel until it's too late."

Garcia says it's better on warm days to drink more water than you think you need. If you've stopped sweating, it's a tell-tale sign for heat stroke, and you should get help immediately.
