MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Making olive oil starts in the fields, where olives are harvested.

Rosenthal Olive Ranch is a fourth generation family farming business. The olives are planted in a super high-density system designed specifically for olive oil. The trees are planted 5 feet apart in 10 foot rows. On an 80 acre plot they have 54,000 trees planted, and they have 160 acres planted in olives.

The olive ranch has five full time employees and many part-time employees when they are needed. They make about 25,000 to 30,000 gallons of oil per year.

Rosenthal Olive Ranch has won many awards including; Koroneiki- a Greek varietal received and Gold Award- California Olive Oil Council. All of their oil is certified by the California Olive Oil Council. Their oil is sold at Sumner Peck Fruit Stands and We Olive.
