Fresno and Madera county serial shooter suspect faces charges in court

A neighbor describes a frantic 911 call after an unknown suspect continued a string of random shootings in Madera and Fresno counties.

"My boss here got shot through her window in the car can. You send an ambulance," said victim.

The Central Valley manhunt is now over. Authorities believe 42-year-old Jorge Gracia is the serial shooter.



Video of him in court Wednesday after he was arrested on separate charges of driving on a suspended license, DUI, and showing a firearm to someone in a vehicle.

Investigators say he now faces five counts of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly shooting at 10 vehicles late last year.


"I was scared to drive around," said neighbor.

A woman who did not want to go on camera says sheriff's deputies came to her house on Tuesday. It was then she learned the person believed to be responsible for the random shootings was her neighbor.

"They showed me a picture of his truck. They asked me if I knew it and I said yes, it was my back door neighbor and then they showed me a picture of him and I said yeah that the guy that drives it. I was just shocked," said neighbor.

She is relieved to know the possible gunman is in custody.

The DA's office says Gracia was convicted of rape in 1997 and attempted rape in 1999. If convicted of these latest charges he faces life in prison.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is going to hold a press conference tomorrow to reveal more about this arrest.
