FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Children are rushed to the emergency room every day, but some of those injuries are preventable.

On Saturday, Children's Hospital Central California brought resources and information to one place to help parents create a safer environment for their children. More than 40 booths were set up for the free health and safety fair.

Another main focus of the event was on car seats. Local law enforcement officers made sure car seats were properly installed. Many parents were relieved to see the seats were correctly holding their precious cargo.

Organizers urge parents to take a closer look at their car seats because children can be injured and end up in the emergency room.

"So I've seen a lot of children come in; they've either not been in car seats when they should have been or they've been improperly installed where the children are either ejected from the vehicle, which means that they're thrown out of the vehicle or they're thrown in the vehicle, and so they get some pretty severe injuries," said Kristina Pasma with the Safe Kids Central California Coalition.

Dozens of local families also received free car seats thanks to a $9,000 grant from the Kiwanis Club.
