FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- According to Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer, an undercover officer was watching the suspect, Burt Harris, in an apartment complex when they saw him involved, in what appeared to be, several drug deals. When officers moved in to arrest him, the suspect got on a bike and went through a pedestrian gate to Shields Avenue near Maple. Undercover officers then chased Harris into another apartment complex.

When officers confronted Harris again, police say he run again, but before he exited another gate, he reached into his pocket and pulled out what appeared to be a black handgun and turned towards the officer. At that time, a Fresno Police sergeant fire one round, hitting Harris in the hip. Harris continued to run, dropping the handgun, and was taken into custody by a CHP officer.

Chief Dyer said they recovered a black Derringer handgun at the scene. Harris was taken to the hospital for treatment.
