Fresno police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured. It happened before 10 p.m. Friday at the Ranchwood Apartments at Butler and Winery avenues in Southeast Fresno.

Police say one man was pronounced dead at the apartment complex. The surviving victim ran to a liquor store down the street at Chestnut and Butler avenues. He was then taken to Community Regional Medical Center and was last listed in stable condition.

People in the area say they heard dozens of gunshots. One woman says her two children were watching television and were nearly hit by a bullet had it not been for a curtain that stopped it.

"All of a sudden we hear like five, seven, eight, 10 shots, really loud shots, and next thing I tell the boys is 'Duck! Duck! Duck!" the woman, who did not want to be identified, told Action News.

"There's a lot of people involved, a lot of apartments hit, a lot of callers, so it takes us time to go through each caller and ask them exactly what they have to offer," said Sgt. Eddie Barrios with the Fresno Police Department.

Officers say they are looking for a red vehicle in connection with the crime. They say it's unknown if this was a gang-related shooting.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department at (559) 621-7000.
