Good Sports: Tonya Hooker
Local Pro Bodybuilder aiming for top of sport

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- You don't have to look hard to find Fresno resident and Kerman High grad Tonya Hooker, the pro bodybuilder is exactly where you would expect her, in the gym.

"Since high school I've been a gym rat but it's been the fitness magazine, I would look and go back and look at the figure girls, the pro bodybuilders and I was just impressed," said Hooker.

Inspiration became reality, she began competing in 2009 and was the figure champion at the Fresno Classic that year.

"From there, I turned pro in the natural league back in 2012. 2014 I competed in two shows and won national show, when I won overall in all three. So it was my first year in women's physique but I ended up taking overall in all three and turned pro," Hooker said.

"It blows my mind that nobody really knows she is the only IFBB pro in here in Fresno. Only two have come out of Fresno, Flex Wheeler was the first and then Tonya," said Iron House Nutrition Owner and friend Jeremy Dyer.

From Fresno to Columbus, Ohio, Tonya will compete in the Arnold Classic.

"Of course I want to win it, that's my whole goal. Top 10 would be great, top 5 you get points towards Olympia, if you win the show you automatically qualify," she said. "A lot of the women and men come up to me and tell me how much I inspire them, so that motivates me and makes me a better athlete."
