FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) --Set foot on the campus of Mariposa High School, you can sense and see the source of pride. A Grizzly statue and a sign that congratulates the boys basketball team, 2016 section champions.
"The community is really rallied around us, they are really excited about it. First time we've made it to the sections, let alone won it," said head coach Bob Jaekle
"Kind of crazy for me to think about because when I was little I was always sitting down on the baseline watching the games and seeing how big and excited everyone was," said Grizzlies guard/forward Dalton Rockwood.
Excitement reached a new level when the Grizzlies won their first ever sac-Joaquin section title at the home of the NBA's Sacramento Kings with a storyline that would make Hollywood blush.
"Like a scene out of Hoosiers. walking into that gigantic gym. We were down 3, 6.8 seconds to go," said Jaekle.
Senior Jacob Baca's 3-point bank shot sent the game into overtime serving as momentum in a win over Brookside Christian for the section title.
"Our goal was to win the section title and everything from here is icing on the cake. You know we are just enjoying the moment, it's an amazing moment with an amazing group of guys and it's just been a lot of fun," said Jaekle.
