FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- For the first time in 22 years Fresno County will be represented at the Scripps National Spelling Bee
Fifth grader Ananya Vinay of Fugman Elementary in Northeast Fresno took the top prize: a spot in the national competition. She's headed to Maryland in May.
Dozens of elementary and junior high students faced off for the Fresno County Office of Education's annual spell-off.
There were 44 elementary and 35 junior high campuses that participated in this year's event.
