Valley vet celebrates 100th birthday
After attending Fresno State, Kathy Carmine enlisted in the military during World War II and handled food shipments and doctor paperwork.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A local veteran is singing her way to year 100.

Kathy Carmine celebrated her 100 birthday Friday with family and friends at Golden Meadows. She says it was the perfect day to ring in the milestone.

"I'm feeling wonderful. The weather is perfect. and I have a little trouble with names and the people on the other side of people were having trouble with names," Carmine said.

Kathy has a lot to remember in her 100 years.

She was born in San Francisco but moved to the Valley when she was 8 years old. After attending Fresno State, Kathy enlisted in the military during World War II and handled food shipments and doctor paperwork.

After the war, Kathy was also one of the first female commanders of the American Legion Post 509 in Fresno.

She says she's lived a full life and has enjoyed every day.
