FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police are trying to find out what led to an altercation that started in east-central Fresno and ended with a stabbing.

Police say it appears about three car loads of people got into some type of argument at the ampm on Clovis and Olive Avenues.

They then hopped on the freeway and stopped at Cedar and McKinley.

Officers say that's when they got out of the cars and begin fighting in the street. During that fight knives were pulled and two people got stabbed.

Both people were sent to the hospital, one of them is in critical condition.

Police are not releasing their identities at the time.

So far no word on a motive but police say it doesn't appear to be a random act.
