Man hit by a train in Central Fresno
Authorities are at the scene of an accident where a person has been hit by a train at Maroa and Princeton.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities are at the scene of an accident where a person has been hit by a train at Maroa and Princeton.

A man in his 60s is dead after attempting to cross the railroad tracks in front of an Amtrak train. It happened just before 10 a.m. on Monday at Princeton and Maroa in Central Fresno.

Officials say it appears the man, who was walking with a cane, tried to beat the train. He was hit and pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's age and identity have not yet been released.

At this time, it's not known how the accident is affecting the schedule for the Valley's Amtrak passenger train schedule.
