Power outage impacts more than 70,000 PG&E customers

According to PG&E more than 70,000 customers are currently without power due to a fire at the Gregg Substation near Highway 99.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- In Northwest Fresno, thousands of homes and businesses were without power. Power was restored to most customers by 5:30 p.m.

PG&E said 70,000 customers were without power because of a fire at a sub-station located at Highway 99 and the San Joaquin River.

The outage was extensive, stretching from nearly the Tower District north to the river and even some customers on the east side of freeway 41 are affected.

Traffic in those areas were also impacted.

Classes were also been affected at Fresno City College. The Public Information Officer, Kathy Bonilla, said,"Due to today's power outage, Fresno City College is closed and tonight's classes will be canceled. Fresno City College is expected to open as usual on Friday."
