FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A woman died in the hospital Sunday after suffering severe burns during a house fire in west-central Fresno, a hospital official said.

Firefighters received calls of a person possibly inside a burning home near Clinton and Ring Avenues around 7:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found a woman in her 60s inside a room where the fire was burning and rushed her to Community Regional Medical Center with second and third-degree burns over most of her body.

The woman died at the hospital, a CRMC official said.

Authorities said the woman may have been disabled and unable to escape on her own.

A man, who neighbors said was her husband, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries after he tried to help the woman escape but he is expected to recover.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
