Thousands of runners hit the streets for Two Cities Marathon

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Cooler morning temperatures weren't enough to dampen spirits at Central Valley's biggest footrace. Thousands of runners hit the streets of Fresno and Clovis for the 9th annual Two Cities Marathon and Half Marathon early Sunday.

The run began and ended at Woodward Park. Crowds of supporters lined the streets to cheer on runners of all ages and abilities. It's not a race for everyone, but the marathon draws plenty of competitive runners from across the country each year.

Charlie Brenneman of Rocklin, Calif. finished first overall and said, "It was really great. I mean it was awesome to start at 6:30 a.m. with an extra hour of sleep. It was cool, there was fog and the last marathon I ran was hot so this was awesome. You go out on the trail and everyone is cheering for you and there was people on the sidelines cheering so it was really awesome."

Runners from the Two Cities race have posted hundreds of photos and videos to social media, celebrating themselves after quite an accomplishment. Many folks posted videos of themselves recorded during the race and quite a few people just wanted to show off their medals.

One of the day's finishers has ties to our Action News team. Producer Rudy Rendon can now check this one off his bucket list. Rudy normally produces this newscast, but we gave him the day off so he could take part in the race.
