FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- There is no avoiding the Valley's extreme heat during the summer same can be said for skyrocketing power bills. The uncomfortable weather can make it easy to crank on the AC and letting it run all day, but remorse can also set in when your monthly power bill arrives
But hold on, there may be a cheaper alternative out there for your family to consider.
"A lot of people don't have them a lot of-- people don't know what they are even," said Greg Williams, Whole House Fan Company.
Williams is talking about whole house fans-- his company offers the wallet friendly option for cooling your home while slashing energy costs at the same time.
"Once you have one the first things you say are we should've done this 10 years ago or 5 years ago."
The fan forces hot air up and out of the attic through your home's vents, eliminating heat and replacing it with a cool breeze that's pulled in through windows left open during the coolest hours of the day.
"As soon as you turn this fan on you're going to feel a breeze like you're at the beach. You're going to love it-- that breeze, it's fresh air and then it goes up through the fan into the attic and it flushes all that heat and stagnates up there and flushes it out," said Williams.
Installing one of those fans in your attic is key because, according to Williams, the space works as an oven during the summer.
"Your attic can be hotter than the Mojave Desert on a day like today-- it can be 150 to 160 degrees in your attic."
And with no place for it to go most of the excessive heat pours into your home forcing your AC to work overtime in the summer.
"If we can get that 150 degrees down to 70 or 75 or 80, you can see that heat won't be hitting you, that air conditioner won't have to fight back, and you save money," said Williams.
Depending on the size of your home a whole house fan will run you less than $2,000 and takes just a few hours for installation.
