Search continues for escaped murder suspect
Police Chief Jerry Dyer says policies are being reviewed, but the immediate focus is finding the guy who police consider a dangerous killer - Ibn Haqq.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno police are still searching for a murder suspect who fought his way out of police headquarters.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer says policies are being reviewed, but the immediate focus is finding the guy who police consider a dangerous killer.

Dyer says it was a bold escape, fueled by the suspects desire to be free.

"He was highly motivated to flee the custody of the police department because he is facing murder charges," he said.

Police aren't releasing all the details, but they acknowledge Ibn Haqq got free of handcuffs that were holding him to a chair, fought with two detectives, opened the window, kicked out the screen and ran.

"The two detectives are veteran detectives, and both are physically fit and did everything in their power to stop him from getting outside of that window, outside of shooting him," Dyer said.

Dyer said detectives usually secure their weapons once inside questioning a suspect. Police conducted an extensive search of the downtown area after Haqq's escape on Friday night. But search dogs lost his scent within a few blocks.

Now that Haqq is on the loose, Dyer says local and federal agencies are looking for him.

"We have information that he is still here locally, but that's not say he may not have went to another city or another state," Dyer warned.
