Clovis USD investigating after students allegedly post racially charged 'slave' messages

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Clovis Unified is investigating after school administrators became aware of racially charged text messages and Twitter posts made by several young people in the community, including students who attend the district's high schools.

The posts include hateful images and messages about owning and even killing slaves.

Clovis Unified issued the following statement:

Overnight, Clovis Unified administrators became aware of racially charged text and Twitter posts made by several young people in the community, at least some of whom attend the district's high schools. The language and imagery used in these racially charged texts is intolerable and counter to the character and ethics we expect of our student body. An investigation into the posts began immediately and is ongoing.

Today, school administrators have reached out to members of their diverse communities and staff to reiterate that the district views the language and imagery used as intolerable and that the fullest extent of disciplinary consequences available to us will be taken to underscore the severity of these actions.

On Monday, schools will have additional staff on hand to facilitate meetings with student groups who have been impacted by the actions of these teens in the community.
